The fans chanted his name and Mark Caguioa responded with gusto.
The 2012 Most Valuable Player chased the 10,000-point milestone, and eventually hit it towards the end of the match, highlighting Barangay Ginebra’s 106-92 triumph over NLEX in the PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Friday night.
Caguioa made the mark on a jumper from the right elbow in the last 1:10 of play, then pointed a finger to high above to a lusty cheer from the Ginebra crowd.
He became the 16th member – 15th local player — of the league’s elite 10,000-point club at age 38 and in his 16th season in the league since being drafted by Ginebra at No. 3 overall in 2001.
Caguioa scored 16 points to hit the milestone and was on the floor as the Kings made a big explosion in the third quarter on the way to a sixth win against a solitary loss.
