TNT blasts Brgy. Ginebra in Game 2 to move 1 win away from the Finals

Terrence Jones registered another triple-double, his 4th in the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup, as TNT moved a win away from barging into Finals with an 88-71 Game 2 win over Brgy. Ginebra, Sunday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 27-year old former Houston Rockets forward finished with 15 points, 19 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 blocks as the KaTropa took a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five semifinal series with the defending champions who are now a loss away from being dethroned.

TNT head coach Ferdinand “Bong” Ravena, however, still sees no reason to celebrate not with a team like Brgy. Ginebra on the other end.

“We are just lucky Ginebra had a bad game. We expected Ginebra to come out strong. Next game, we expect the same thing,” said the former PBA player.

The KaTropa held the Gin Kings to its lowest output with Justin Brownlee as reinforcement, lowest in the playoffs since 2015 and lowest ever since 2017, according to chief PBA statistician Fidel Mangonon.

Jayson Castro paced TNT, which converted 16 treys out of 44 attempts compared to only 5/23 for Brgy. Ginebra, with 20 points in addition to 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Roger Pogoy contributed 18, all from long distance, while Troy Rosario and Brian Heruela chipped in 16 and 11 markers, respectively.

Justin Brownlee led the Gin Kings’ losing cause with 25 points, 13 boards, 3 assists but had no assists. Japeth Aguilar added 14 markers while Scottie Thompson had 13. Stanley Pringle struggled all game long and finished with 2 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and 6 turnovers in 44 minutes of action.

The scores:
