Scottie Thompson attended Brgy. Ginebra’s practice in Lipa City on Tuesday unmindful of the online storm brewing regarding his decision to tie the knot with a certain Jinky Serrano instead of longtime girlfried and fiancé Pau Fajardo.
Photos and videos released by the PBA showed Thompson working out with the team just a day after news of his unexpected marriage broke out.
Gin Kings head coach Tim Cone, however, insisted that the issue hasn’t been a distraction in the team’s preparation to defend the Philippine Cup crown and that management only gets involved if the player chooses to.
“His personal life is his personal life. That’s something we don’t get involved with unless the player comes to us, and that rarely, rarely happens,” said Cone.
“One thing for sure, the management, the coaching staff and his teammates all love Scottie. He’s the perfect teammate,” added the league’s winningest mentor.
Meanwhile, Cone bared that the team’s buildup for the upcoming season has been running smoothly with the exception of a few minor injuries.
“We’re progressing normally, just battling a few injuries that are keeping guys out of practice. But we expect everyone back long before the conference starts, hopefully, sometime in July,” said Cone.
