Tim Cone expects physicality to continue as series shifts to winner-take-all

Tim Cone is expecting Game 3 of the quarterfinal series between Brgy. Ginebra and Meralco in the PBA Season 47 Philippine Cup to be highly physical just like the previous match between the two sides.

The Gin Kings head coach believes believes that instances of physicality will be the same, if not more, as the series shifts to a winner-take-all tussle for the right to advance to the semifinal round and take on the top-seeded San Miguel Beermen.

“I assume it’s going to be the same,” said Cone.

“Beginning of the game, I can’t worry about that. I’m sure the league will sort it out afterwards. I don’t know the details. I heard it, and forget it. I have to focus on the game,” added the league’s winningest mentor in reference to the pre-game skirmish between Christian Standhardinger and seldom-used Meralco guard Franky Johnson.

With physicality expected to reach fever pitch due to the high stakes, Cone is hoping for the crowd darlings not lose focus and keep both eyes on the prize.

“The last game was really physical too especially on their end. We just didn’t respond very well. We responded better with the physicality. We have to respond in Game Three as well,” said Cone.

“They’re showing their desire by the way they are coming out and playing physically, diving all over the floor, Hodge throwing his body around everywhere. They are showing their great desire that they have. We are just trying to match it. We are trying to match that physicality,” he added. “For us to come out and play well in Game Three, we are going to have to continue to match that physicality. That’s really the name of the game in this series.”
