Jared Dillinger will be playing in the championship round of the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup.
Unlike his previous Finals appearance, however, he will be seeing action for Brgy. Ginebra instead of Meralco, his team for the last six seasons before he was scooped up by the Gin Kings from the unrestricted free agent list in a move which was frowned upon by the Bolts management since they claimed that they had a gentleman’s agreement with the 6-foot-4 Fil-Am.
Dillinger, who just recently turned 36, has seen limited action for his new team due to a recurring quad injury. The 2nd overall pick of the 2008 draft, however, played in the crowd darlings’ last four games (against NorthPort in the semis) and scored a total of 10 points.
And for do-it-all guard Scottie Thompson, a healthy Dillinger will come in handy especially against his former team.
“Unang-una, sobrang happy kami especially ngayon healthy na si JD,” said Thompson during the Finals’ press conference, Saturday afternoon at Sambokojin in Eastwood, Quezon City.
“For sure marami siyang maco-contribute sa amin, hindi lang sa laro kasi sa practice nakikita namin, talagang veteran siya, leader siya para sa team. Isa siya sa naging leaders namin ngayon,” he added.
And with Dillinger teeming with experience being a 5-time PBA champion, Thompson believes that he will definitely be an advantage in the team’s quest to reclaim the Governors’ Cup crown.
“Yun yung sigurong advantage namin. Nadagdagan yung leader namin sa team.”
