US-bound to sit on the Miami Heat bench in the NBA Summer League, coach Tim Cone got a nice sendoff from his Barangay Ginebra team via a pulsating triumph over San Miguel Beer Friday at the MOA Arena.
And thus Cone is leaving Tuesday with the Gin Kings on top of the heap in PBA Season 47 Philippine Cup with a 4-1 win-loss slate.
As in the previous games, the Ginebra starters did much of the lifting for the team, with big men Christian Standhardinger and Japeth Aguilar shining brightest this time with their double-double numbers.
The duo did their assignment versus June Mar Fajardo, holding the 6-foot-10 behemoth down to six points while combining for 35 markers and 14 rebounds of their own.
Scottie Thompson contributed superb all-around numbers with 15 markers, eight boards and seven assists, LA Tenorio chipped in 11 points, seven dish-offs and three rebounds while Arvin Tolentino added nine markers, including two three-pointers.
The Gin Kings outfought the Beermen in a battle though curiously drawing only a total of five points from the bench as Ginebra came through with a 2-1 card in tough assignments in six days.
They moved up to 4-1 overall with back-to-back wins ushered in by an 83-75 triumph over NLEX on Wednesday.
