Barangay Ginebra officiated the last rites for TNT KaTropa in PBA Season 43.
The Gin Kings slammed the playoffs door shut on the Texters in a stirring 112-93 victory that climaxed Ginebra’s dominant run on the way to a top finish in the PBA Governors Cup elimination round at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday.
“We certainly didn’t want to limp into the playoffs. We wanted to make sure we’re coming in full speed. It’s not about winning but much about preparing us for the playoffs,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone after closing out their elims stint with a tournament-best mark of nine wins against two losses.
In delivering a strong finishing kick at the close of the elims, the Kings dashed the Texters’ playoff hopes and gave the Meralco Bolts a free ride into the quarterfinals.
The Texters joined the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, the NorthPort Batang Pier and the Columbian Dyip as the early casualties in the conference and in the season.
Though assured of the No. 1 spot regardless of the outcome of the game, the Kings still threw everything at the Texters, leading by as many as 22 points in their cruel victory.
